Ouch! Presumably you knew it was deteriorating, what with it being in clear view. I wonder what might be going on with any structural member (if there is one) hidden behind it.

Beneath the floor pan is a box section and it has rotted out on the right angle there is three edges to the metal that the rubber strip grips round, the nuts holding the door catch have sheared off and they go into nutserts it gets worse by the minute

Wow, what will the repair be - fabricated or a section from a scrapper?

Even mine has started to let go! And my bongo doesn't get used in the winter time :?

Thankfully it's the only rust on mine, it was right on the lip of the leading edge where the two panels are pressed together. It came off with a few passes with a wire brush, i injected waxoyl into the seam, and into the weather strip seal then re-fitted the weather strip to lock in the waxoyl so it could do it's thing. Everybody should check the state of theirs, takes two seconds to check.

Simply open the tailgate, pull the weatherstrip straight towards you off the body (my surface rust was almost level with the tailgate striker plate).

DBO's had the rot cut away, then a fresh sheet of steel welded on, then stonechip guarded, then painted, waxoyled on the inside.

Worth whipping the weather strip off a bit to have a look Graham, takes less than a minute to check :D
