Indicators/hazards not working!

I know this has been covered before, and I've done my best but could someone help a total idiot. I DO NOT do electrics and it appears my friendly local auto electrician is away. I've checked the fuses but haven't tackled anything more complicated than that.

My indicators do not work at all, my hazards do not work at all, and there is no clicking to indicate that they should be working and aren't. There's nothing on the dash / hazard switch lighting up either (although I can't remember if the hazard switch does light up because I never use it).

The Bongo has been to the body shop for a new tailgate and bumper, which involved removing the towing hitch but they say they have not touched any electrics and when they took off the tow hitch they rested it on something and did not disconnect anything.

Any suggestions in words of one or two syllables, please?

And is it illegal to drive with no indicators if I put a nice big sign up sayind "HAND SIGNALS ONLY". I have assumed it is, but not driving the Bongo is proving to be extremely inconvenient.

Many thanks, all :)

Have you checked fuses 2 & 11 both 10amp red..??

They may have in inadvertently disturbed the tow hitch electrics causing a short either behind the panel in the loom going to the tail-light or in the connections to the tow hook up??

There are two 10 Amp fuses that affect the indicators and Hazards check these out;

Checked 11 but not 2. Will go out there and do it immediately. Convinced it must be something simple (although very little is simple enough for me where electrickery is concerned!)

Thanks.

Couldn't tell by looking whether 2 had blown or not, so popped a new one in there and got two flashes and then nothing. So it appears that Fuse 2 is the culprit, but as it's just blown again there is a deeper seated issue at hand.

How come I didn't spot that 2 was important on my fuse diagram that I carry around with me. Said I was an idiot

Yes, I must change that back to something more sensible!! Now, I wonder if I could drive up to you without needing to indicate at all :-k

Trouble is, I'm on a roll too ..... springcleaning. We've got a skip outside but there are some recyclables that I really need to take to the dump and I'll lose interest soon.

As in lights? Yep - main and dip beam, front fogs, rear fog, tail lights, brake lights and all dashboard lights (apart from the ones which relate to the indicators), and the interior lights.

It has occurred to me that they couldn't have fitted the rear fog light as well as they did with the wiring in place. Or maybe they are very clever.

OK, here's what i think may have happened... Either.. (& i have seen some messy jobs with "professional" tow hitch electrics.. On my old previous van for one!!) They disturbed something, which could be shorting or running to ground?? Or if the hitch loom runs under the tail trim plastic across the latch, & down through the floor (which may not be your case with a tow bar?) it has pinched & shorting there!!??

When the removed & "rested it on something" it may have been the last straw!!?

Hi,
It would be worthwhile checking your tow-bar socket for loose wire/s.

Cheers..

oops too late

Thank you, I shall have a look. Can't remember where the tow hitch electrics go, but I know the rear fog goes under the carpet and down a hole on the right hand side under the plastic carpet holdery thing. They may go the same way.

I will normally do anything to get out of springcleaning, but today I really don't want to be trying to fix my Bongo. Oh well, hey ho, here goes ..... got to pick the Tiny Tyrant up from school in an hour, so won't be back on here for a couple of hours.

Keep thinking!1

Where'd Geoff go, anyway? You put him off with your speed of response

Went out for a drive this afternoon! Its been a luverly day down here, and as the van is in the garage for the rest of the week having its arches sorted we thought we would make he most of it!

Yes the top fuse is the main fuse that actually powers the lights, the lower one fuses the stalk switch.
I think you will find that the towbar electrics connect into the Offside rear lights as you can pickup all the circuits from there and that's also normally where they put the bleeper as well. My guess will be that they have done something in there which has left the indicators shorting to earth :-(
