New wheel arches

Thanks to 'you've been bongoed'...have now booked in for all four wheel arches to be replaced by jap imports, for £600. Considering my local garage/body shop quoted me £500 for rubbing them down/painting etc etc, having complete new ones [made for the bongo] seems a good price !?

If this has been posted before......apologies !

Nice one :) ~you will get a good job from Ian Taylor & the price seems reasonable for the ammount of work involved.

It must still be cheaper than buying 2 new wings , even if same colour etc. Don't understand why you queried this Julian ?

I have to agree with Julian I have never come across anyone replacing the front wheel arches as the wings are bolt on and if they are bad enough to need the arch cutting out and new arches fitted which I have never heard of being available.

It would be a huge amount of work opposed to fitting a pair of good used wings which would be both easier and much cheaper.

Brand new front wings are about £110 each, in primer, and only need spraying - gotta be better than repair. 2nd hand wings in good nick around £80 from the likes of Bongobits etc. Maybe that is what Ian will be doing anyway but didn't make it clear. 8)

To update you all....Just spoken to Ian Taylor again....the price is for the 2 rear arches !!!!!!!!!! This is NOT what he said to me earlier I'm sure . Anyway, have decided to cancel this work; as £600 for 2 arches seems very expensive. Ian says he makes all the arches , and has done loads for people who are members on here etc.
THANKS for all your input folks, I'm now going to re-think it all thro' and decide for later in the year.

£600 doesn't sound too bad really. I paid more ang got a lot less having mine 'repaired'. It's pretty labour intensive to do a good job - scrimping a few £ now could cost more in future repairs.

Blimey! Did that include cutting out old metal, welding in new arches, and spraying up, and was that £250 for BOTH sides? I'd love his details if so as that's not too far off from me when my time comes 8)

My workshop has quoted me £200 for one arch replacement and £100 for fixing up the other side (+VAT). I'm now contemplating if I should ask him to get 2 Transit arches (as discussed elsewhere) instead. I'll pop by tomorrow (with the print-out from the members area) and ask him to give me a quote for those. I'll let you know...

Be interested to here how you get on. Mine will need doing in the near future so I'm on the lookout for someone local(ish) who can do a good job
