Bongo Fury

Our winter pack equipped Friendee has copped well with the snow BUT we are getting an oil warning light on for quite a while - it does go out after 10 - 15 mins but may also come back when going over a speedhump etc.
I checked the oil level using the dipstick accessed form under the drivers seat and it seems fine.

So a) have I checked the engine oil level or something else?
b) if so what could be the cause of the oil warning light?

EDIT - I now realise I have checked the gearbox oil back out into the snow !!!!!

The dipstick for the engine oil is under the PASSENGER seat

If the level is really low, allow the engine to cool before you pour in cold oil...

Dipstick under the drivers seat is your gear/auto box

At least you also know your gearbox fluid is fine, as long as it didn't look like engine oil,
should be a nice clear red/pink colour.

Just how far have you driven with an oil light on?

You should never run the engine if the oil light doesn't go out within a few seconds of starting as it means there is insufficient oil pressure and your engine will be grinding itself to pieces.

Did you resolve your oil light problems?

All of a sudden my oil pressure light takes 5-10 seconds to go out on a cold start - which it never did before. My oil level is fine too. It goes out quickly if the car is warm, been recently turned off i.e. filling up at the garage. It does go out if I rev the engine a little bit.

Are the pressures switches a weak point on Bongo's? I've had one fail before on an Audi giving the same symptoms.

On a more £££ side - could it be a blocked oil pickup in the sump or a weak oil pump. I might have a rusty dirty Bongo, but the engines a good one... so I keep telling myself!

Changed it about 2 months ago with a BluePrint item - I've just seen some posts about filters with failing anti-return valves and this seems quite likely. I'm using 10-30 semi synth I think. When it gets warmer I'll change it for "summer" oil and use a Mazda filter. This seems to be quite a common problem and I'm not overly worried at the moment.

Hi Steve,

That is a possibility with a faulty NRV.I would get the pressure checked,it will tell you if the switch is faulty or not.
PS 5-10 seconds for the light to go out is a bit long,even with a faulty NRV..

hi in my opinion the 10w oil is too thick for winter,and was wondering which oil you intend to use in summer.probably best to take the sump off and have a look for sludged up pick up.it may indicate the condition of the internals.
