Leisure battery hibernation

I fitted a leisure battery before the summer to run the 12v socket, internal lights, radio and blinds. Now it's winter, should I disconnect it? Does keeping it connected reduce it's life?

Roll on Spring.

Not only disconnect it, but keep it charged if you aren't using the Bongo.

If you are still using the Bongo leave it connected and continually charged.

If it goes flat it's life will be seriously shortened if it's not killed there and then.

We use the Bongo daily. I guess it is less hassle if I keep it connected.

Thankyou for the advice

In that case you definitely leave it connected 24/7, there is no good reason whatsoever to disconnect it, only bad ones.

How long is it safe to leave the leisure battery connected? We might only use our Bongo once a month or so in winter. Does the same apply for the starter battery?

You can leave it connected as long as you like - just make sure it doesn't go flat, as that will shorten it's life.

That's sort of what I meant (sorry I wasn't very clear): how long would it take for it to run flat?

Depends if you've got anything running off it - radio etc. I usually give mine a boost about once a month, but there's nothing connected to it 8)

As John says "that all depends upon how long your piece of string is."

If it is totally disconnected from anything, a month should easily be OK but if there is the slightest drain, even from just the memory function of the radio it might be too long.

"Flat" in battery terms is anything much under 12volts, it doesn't have to be 0 volts - that is "disaster".
