Does any one have any experience of registering a Bongo in Portugal?

Just a quick update. The seller of the Bongo we hope to buy in Portugal expects to get the Portuguese number plates this weeks. The Bongo passed the local equivalent of the SVA with only the addition of glue on beam deflectors.

If there is interest I will post more info after we get the Bongo and the cardiologist lets me fly back to Faro

Well we finally took delivery of our Portuguese registered Bongo yesterday. It has taken about 4 months to complete and cost the seller quite a bit as he had to employ a specialist to get the paper work done.

If any one wants to know more please let me know.

As I mentioned above beam deflectors are glued onto the front of the headlamp lenses. As far as I am aware no other modifications other than those done for the SVA.

Wow - encouraging news. I wonder if that means a Bongo can be registered OK in other EU countries? An old school of thought on here thought it might be nigh on impossible but.....

I imagine that the high seating position in a Bongo will make it less of a burden driving an RHD vehicle on drive-on-the-right roads :)

Hi
There's no problem registering a Bongo anywhere in Europe if you already own the car IN EUROPE. The Lights are not a problem, and each country varies. Some allow beam benders, some don't . Over here some regions allow beam benders, and some specify new lights. It is largely a matter of who is interpreting the rules. The idiot that was doing my entry test wouldn't accept the Japanese registration plate as it wasn't riveted????...so I showed him the stamping in the body    . BUT...IF you have difficulties, you get a lawyer who understands OR WILL FIND OUT the regulations, and it's no problem...you have the right to take your car with you in Europe, as long as it meets the road standards!...our lawyer saved us 3000 euros a few years back!...that's what the authorities wanted, as they didn't read the regs. , and it is the same elsewhere...and YES, you can register a Bongo in France, but like everywhere else, the paperwork is unimaginable!
SO...carry on Bongoing....(I think there's a film title in there!)
Well done Maxi
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
