Door Lock Removal

Hi Folks

Ive had a good search but cannot find any info on how to remove the front door lock mechanism's (passenger, but assume both to be the same), I can undo all the screws and have the lock "hanging", but there looks to be a fixed point on the end of a rod towards the bottom rear corner of the door window, this has a nasty "break as soon as look at me" plastic fixing that I cant see how to remove - any help & guidance would be much appreciated!
