I know it's late but I really would appreciate a definitive answer for this!
I've searched the boards and the closest thread that I can find to help sort the idle speed adjustment is this one... http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... %26+adjust
The elusive information is on page 2.
Trouble is the crucial bit of explanation relies on images that no longer exist (old photobucket stuff)
My idle speed is too low, please help me nudge it up a bit!!
Cheers,
Mctavish

Re: Idle speed adjustment
Look for the Idle switch on the fuel pump, drawing number 24-3112 on lushprojects diagram - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... o=.html#23
Loosen the idle switch lock nut & turn the idle switch to adjust the revs then retighten the lock nut.
Should be between 700-780rpm (from the manual, not done this myself)
My question to you is, is the idle speed iffy on start up from cold? ie is the cold start fast idle working? Do the engine revs pick up when the ac kicks in, or do they drop? Is the idle speed ok once it's warm?
It could be the vacuum solenoids on the drivers side of the engine are not working - the two forward ones Y & Z are the important ones - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 1of02.html especially Y, the foremost one, seems to pack up for a pasttime. If you disconnect the electrical connector on cold start, you should feel it click off & the revs should drop/go lumpy, pushi back on & it should click again & lift them. The same should happen with the ac kicking in. If the front one isn't working, try putting the connector from the front one on to the second one & see if this one works - it does the same thing ( I think this is only triggered in exteme cold - not worked it out yet, but it generally doesn't seem to do much - hence it's usually working when the front one doesn't)
Hope this helps
Ooh & check the hoses aren't perished or the plastic connections on the solenoids aren't broken, very fragile brittle old plastic, easy to break if it's not already

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
Re: Idle speed adjustment
Kirsty you are both legendary and no doubt sleep deprived....
My answer to you is...
The revs kick up when AC clicks in, and the cold start revs are higher than when warm, so I think I'm all good on that front.
The problem from day one has been the overall speed is too low - around 650 rpm I reckon when warm and no AC running, which is properly resonant with pretty much everything in the van, and many of my body parts...
Go to bed.

Sounds like it just needs a tweek upwards then.

Re: Idle speed adjustment
That worked then, good to know, I'd never actually looked at how to adjust the idle until you asked - we both learnt sumat
