When I have the heater on the hot mode, it is`nt just a hot air smell, cant quite put my finger on it but it seems like you can smell the engine, its not that strong that you cant bear it, but the wife allways says , whats the smell?. theres no leaks of oil or water anywhere and I have not been in any other Bongo so I dont know if it is common or not . any thoughts folks?

Hi Colin
Depends on the car...the Bongo is not as bad as some, because the hoses are under the bonnet, and don't add to the smell, but the hot metal of the heater matrix gives off a smell in some cars. Sometimes it's because of dirt settled in the fins, sometimes just a metallic smell , sometimes even the hot plastic round the matrix. I have had some central heating radiators give off a similar metallic smell. If it is the niff that i'm thinking of, it's a case of some smell, some don't. Just check that your water level isn't dropping, in case there's a pinhole leak, otherwise it's probably nothing
Cheers
Helen

I wouldn't mind but I'd already posted to that thread once, obviously it's far too much to expect people to actually read through
Sorry If this comes across as rude, but I find it rude that people ask a question, they get given a link with an answer & they can't be bothered to read it through

I'm sorry, but how can it not be clear from the diagrams I linked to & the factsheet? Says in your profile "Retired Electrician" - IMO this means you should have a head start on most people on understanding drawings/diagrams etc.
I don't take delight in jumping on anyones mistakes & I'm sorry if you think I'm singling you out, but I'll say it as I see it, no matter who it is.
If you look back through the posts, I think you'll find I've gone out of my way to help you more than once, but I get fed up having to spoonfeed answers
