power loss and HOLD light flash

Hi all,
I've had my Bongo 2.5TD for 2 years now. Over the last few months it seems to lose power climbing steep hills, (anyone know Haldon Hill on the A38!) I used to go up at 70mph no probs, but lately its dropping to 60ish. If i try to accelerate, its drops a gear but no speed change.
Then last week the Hold light flashed for about 2 minutes, stopped flashing and I thought no more of it.
Yesterday after driving about 30 miles, the hold light started flashing again. No loss of power, no gear change, no over-revving. I carried on another 20 miles, came off the motorway and the light stopped flashing as soon as I slowed on the off-slip.
After checking the fact page, it could be the speedo chip- put in 2years ago, or possibly the throttle position sensor.
Any ideas what else could cause this?
Many thanks
Matt

There's a factsheet in the members area on how to check the fault codes.
Re the power loss, it may not necessarily be connected to the flashing hold, could just be fuel filter/banjo filter restricted, or fuel pump/pipework issues which could also cause the gearbox to change down.

It could just be the switch or connection?

or wiring diagrams depending on the age of your vehicle -

Are you sure it's not doing anything & not just the bulb not working?

Over the last few months it seems to lose power climbing steep hills...
I seem to have a power loss issue too. My Bongo is a 2L petrol. Bongo was serviced just a few weeks ago so all filters etc were checked and/or changed. The prob is intermittant but like Paramatt seems to have developed an aversion to hills
. I do release pressure on the accelerator if it gets sluggish but even if it drops a gear I don't always get a swift resumption of power. Wondered if I have a minor blockage somewhere? I'm off on hols towing very soon and I don't fancy getting stuck in the undulating terrain of my far-flung destination. It has also caused a few scary moments when pulling out a local busy junction and deciding to pause after a few yards!
Please keep any suggestions simple as I'm not mechanically minded....
Hope you get yours sorted too Matt.

I agree, you have two separate issues there, power loss - 1st place to look is the banjo filter, & a gearbox fault code. No way of knowing what until the code(s) are read.

Probably best to start a separate topic for yours WC as it's a 2litre petrol - different kettle of fish, could get confusing

Well, I've just taken out the banjo filter- no problems there, nice and clean.
I also checked the connections on the speedo chip- all good!!
Haven't been on a long run yet, so I'll have to wait and see now.

Fuel & air filter been changed? any fuel leaks around the pipework/pump/injectors? If you change the fuel filter, worth filling it with injector cleaner before putting the new on in.

I said I wasn't mechanically minded, lol. I've reposted as a new topic.
Good luck with yours Paramatt
PS MissF... not sure I like my name shortened to WC - I sound like a convenience!!!!

Where is the banjo filter?

Fuel and air cleaner both changed in the last 5-6000 miles. The mechanic said the old fuel filter was in good condition still.
Just been out today, only about 10 miles. All good on the way out, then on the way home on came the hold light. It flashed for a few minutes, then stopped, and then on again for the last 4 miles home. Nice steady driving, no big hills, no high speeds.
If there was a fault, would it not stay on permanantly?
Where is the banjo filter?
Under the drivers seat, just below the fuel injection pump, a 13mm bolt with a metal pipe/hose going into it. I'm sure some techno whizz can put a picture up here for you, or check out the topic page.
