gearbox probs

my friend has a 2wd diesel and has ahad a replacement box fitted plus new soloniod box but it wont go into top gear


anyone any idea's whats wrong ??????????????
I NOW HAVE AN ASTRA JUST THE BONGO TO FIND A NEW HOME THEN I AM OUT OF HERE

check the temp sender on the gbox and the wiring

Could be many things, the first thing to establish is whether the ECU is commanding the transmission to change into top & lockup (I suspect he has no lockup either), the only way to do this is by connecting a signal monitor to the shift solenoid wiring. Assuming the ECU is not commanding a shift to 4th you know your problem is outside the transmission (with the exception of the trans temp sender). The last one we had here here with this fault had all the electrics swopped over from my Bongo, speedo, range selector (inhibitor) switch, speed sensors, eng temp sensors, ECU etc. etc. Made no difference so it pointed to wiring or something really odd, the owner (who ran a garage) took it away to give to his electrician to play with rather than run up an even bigger bill with me.
