Bongo Fury

My ABS light has is permanently on.

I get an error code of 11. Does anyone have a list of the error codes? I have checked the factsheets and can only find them for the gearbox.

Are these codes in the workshop manual?

Code 11 is also in the manual, listed as "enging bay temp sensor signal", not connected wth the ABS fault by the looks of it. I'd check the ABS system out as the light is showing there's a fault with it

Stephen, I don't have ABS.. (& know not a lot about it) But i did read somewhere on here where the ABS lit up, & it turned out to be a sensor wire frayed/broke on/near one of the wheels/brake assembly?? Hope this may help! It was just a case of re-soldering & securing the wires... I think!?

I had this problem on a Volvo. ABS light regularly coming on. Brakes felt fine and the ABS was clearly working. It turned out to be a faulty wire connecting to the sensor.

As Jaylee says investigate the sensor wiring. The ABS system seems more robust than the wiring. Your other fault code also being a sensor could be related to this problem as well.

I dont know which year your bongo is but i believe older bongos(ours is a p)dont have any diagnostics.
you can visually inspect each lead(one at each wheel)for damage,then use a meter to test them for continuity and also if you spin each wheel in turn check for output.
some owners have found the lead(s) rubbing on a wheel if not secured properly.

there may also be other fixes but this is a good starting point.

the continuity between each wire on the sensor should be between 9 and 20 ohms. usually if a sensor goes down its an open circuit ie no reading.

If it was shorting could it not throw the ABS light up??!

My Volvo definitely threw the ABS light up with a wiring fault. Didn't fix it myself, but it was a quick and easy sort out, a loose connection somewhere.

The bulb was definitely not removed It still lit up at start up and went promptly out after fixing.

Not meaning to hijack this thread - my bongo is supposed to have abs, but as I was skidding down a slippery lane yesterday on Exmoor towards a Big Blue Tractor I noticed my ABS was definitely not working.. - there is no light on startup - should there be a big yellow one in the dash binnacle? Reading here, it seems there should be/ Mines a 97 and it does have an abs pump... Seeing this thread has reminded me to look into it.

Might be worth checking the fuses, there are three specific to the ABS, shown as green squiggles on the page below, hover your mouse over them and a picture showing where they are located will appear;


Oh and check that the light is OK in the dashboard - it might have failed.

The 100 Amp main fuse and 60 amp IG(nition) fuse you don't need to worry about

Both 95 and 97 wiring manuals show that there are two connections to the Diagnostic port, but nothing connected to the ECU so there won't be any fault codes reported from the ECU itself. But there is info available from the diagnostics port itself.

My ABS light came on not long after changing to alloy wheels. Spent ages trying to find cause until I crawled underneath the Bong to physically inspect wheel sensors. Found that one of the balance weights on rear nearside wheel had very neatly cut the wires.
Put together with 5amp connector block; temporary measure, of course. Had the sensor checked and all works OK. Still in same state as replacement sensors are very expensive and I can't find any secondhand ones.
