Bongo Fury

Having a nightmare. Sorry if it's a repeat.
I have central locking on my Bongo which makes you press the key fob button after you've put the key in the ignition.
About once a fortnight, it just won't start. I canhear the click in what i presume is the starter motor but it won't do anything else. After five minutes random swearing, fob pushing and key turning, it starts as though nothing is wrong.
Recently the central locking has only been working on the driver's door. You have to go around and manually lock all the other doors. Again, this is random. Sometimes it works fine. It's a pain in the backside with four kids in tow.
I've tried my usual garage and they can't find anything wrong (because of course, it works fine when I book it in). I tried calling a few electrical specialists in the Northampton area but they hadn't even heard of a Bongo and were frankly rude and dismissive.

Can anyone help? is it simply a case of my starter motor needing a clean? Is this something a blind amateur could do or do I need a Bongo-Friendly expert?

starter contacts need replacing,common fault, does your vehicle have an alarm/immobiliser fitted? you mention pressing a button to get the car t start?

Starter contacts factsheet in the members area, not a difficult job, & you can get the contacts & plunger for under £20 on ebay - as long as you haven't got the Winterpack model.

Yes, the central locking problem (only driver's door works) and the ignition problems sound like they might be separate issues. The immobilliser was fitted after import. You have to open the Bongo, put keys in ignition, turn key, then press the central locking key fob again to start the engine. I hope you're right and it's not a major job!

do you know the make of the immobiliser? and who fitted it? also its preferable for all immobilisers if you disarm them before you attempt to start the car, central locking problem is probably the loom running between the door and the body of the vehicle.
