Just had a fantastic week in St Ives
7 days of great weather

)
340 miles of perfect fault free bongo motoring.
Was part way home, when the hold light started flashing.
Noticed it wasn't going into 5th cos of revs.
Needed fuel so stopped for 1/2 hr as well, anyway started off again expecting it to flash n it's stopped.
Also it's back into 5th n revs back where they should be.
I've seen a post similar, obviously it ain't gonna go away
so just wondering what bits gonna need fitting now.
Other than that 3000 miles of great motoring on me new box

Possibly not an expensive fix.
Likely to be either speedometer sensor, throttle position sensor/potentiometer or shift solenoid failure/TRS switch.

I think the Burnham bunch had to have a new solenoid pack to sort theirs with similar symptoms, haven't heard back from them with the defintiive answer yet, try a search on "Flashing and hold" loads of suggestions to check if you can't get a fault code.

Ta, guys, it must be intermittent.
Seems to be when it's under load n hot, 2 kids the missus n the kitchen sink lol
I have just been out today empty, local driving n it's ok again !!
As long as there's no lasting damage Will get it looked at when it's a permanent fault

You could try PMing Alacrity as he is top dog for autoboxes. Dandywarhol too is an all round top mechanic (he teaches it at college!), and if you can get the likes of Allan from Allans Vehicle Services in Plymouth to comment, he might have an idea too. Others a Paul at LPG Imports and Mark at AVA Leisure, who also come on here from time to time. Personally I'd be a tad wary just in case something is going AWOL when engine gets hot. If so it might be best to have it looked at sooner rather than later.

Has anyone looked at the throttle position sensor yet?
Still sounds a likely culprit. . . .

Recently had ours fixed. All it needed was a gear sensor. Fixed with no hassle by Discount trucks.

Sorry Guys, posted this here 1st deleted it, then put it in Techie Stuff,
''Flashing Hold Light Returns'' sounds like a sequel to a movie
I have had no flashing hold light since last posting (TOP of the LIST) but it has dropped & stayed in 3rd occasionally when ive gone up a steepish hill (No flashing hold light tho) then when stopped for 5 mins returns to normal.
Anyway have had an oil slick of a gearbox leak getting worse by the week (still no hold light)
So read up on how to drain box with said Pela pump (worked a dream) fitted new gearbox sump gasket, cleaned sump pan, didn't do strainer as it had a rebuild last year (thinking maybe i should have but lack of time

) refitted & refilled with 5 ltrs ATF Dexron III oil.
When i started her up

surprise hold light flashing !! & now wont change up from 3rd
Did all the level checks in 'D'. All correct.
There is still a small amount of oil leaking from somewhere. possible gearbox bell housing, could that be the torque converter ? That i hope is a separate issue !!
If its any use it did use to change up n down at 40mph (from 3rd to 4th) prior to oil change with light throttle. Reading the threads n posts that seems quite normal

wot ever normal is
Also put fresh antifreeze in & an oil n filter change too.
Didn't do fuel filter tho, think i will do this next week. (have done fuel filter on my Ford Ecort, which has a priming pump, is there a link for Bongo fuel filter

or is it self bleeding

which i doubt)
Have had a look at various threads mentioning throttle position sensor, and ecu, and did see something about bleeding coolant ?
Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.
thanx for the ones already posted
PS any local Bongo friendly garages in south west cornwall

Allans in Plymouth is the nearest I can immediately think of. Can't see how transmission fluid leak per se could cause a problem, until or unless level got low. YOu need to identify what code the flashing hold light is giving you, I imagine, before further diagnosis can be made. I recall faulty gearbox sensor pack being one possible cause of gearbox trouble.

If you need a solenoid pack I've got my perfectly serviceable old one in the shed.

Well done Chris and yes, I meant solenoid not sensor. Doh!!

As Mike says, read the fault code(s)! Anything else is just pure speculation, yes it could be one of the things mentioned above but anyone would be mad to act on those suggestions without reading the code(s), that is what they are for at the end of the day.
If oil is leaking from the bell housing it is probably the front seal, but that in itself could be a symptom of a worn pump bush and/or converter pump drive. It could be the converter itself cracked around the pump drive. It could also be loose pump bolts or a leak around the pump body itself. If it were here we would address all the above while the gearbox is out, only fitting a converter if required though. Be wary about just changing the pump seal, if the bush is worn the leak will return.

Just checked the Diagnostic and it gave me No 6 or 60
Whats the next course of action guys
Having driven it prior to all checks it does go thru all the gears ok, it just wont go into lock up

it also kicks down ok too
I have cleaned the little gauze filter under the banjo bolt which had a little bit of crap in it, not much tho & will also change the fuel filter tomoz or following day to try n rule out any fuel issues.
Don't really want to mess with TPS coz it was fine before i did the ATF change.
If its a solenoid change then so be it
Any further advice kindly accepted
