Hello peeps,

I am hoping to fiit my audiovox cruise control today and I was looking for some guidance. Does anyone have the fitting instructions from Simon or any help with locating the different wires etc?

I have tried the swearch function but there doesn't seem to be any complete help, justt bits and bobs?

It's reasonably straightforward to be honest.

I fitted the control unit drum under the driver's seat - held in place with the forward air filter mounting bolt.

The vacuum feed can be got easily from the blanked stub on the steel vac pipe which runs vertically at the front of the engine. You need to access this from the passenger's side. The stub points that way, about 1/2 way down the engine. IIRC, if you have a winter kit fitted with the exhaust strangle valve, this is already used, so you need to 'T' into it somewhere.

Have you got the wee rectangular grey control panel? I managed to fit this in the wee cubby slot above the fusebox on the right hand side of the dash - just a jam fit. Drilled a hole through the back, and then made up the connector inside the dash.

With the dip switches set to (IIRC) 4000 pulses, the CC cuts off at about 65mph. With it set to (IIRC) 8000 pulses it works fine (presumably up to 130mph - I have not yet verified this!!) Still can be used down at 30mph ish

Hmmmm.... Now you've got me thinking.

It was a while ago (hence all the IIRCs), but I think I picked up a switched live from behind the ignition key - soldered in a tapping. The ground wire is definitely bolted onto the engine - to the clip which holds the injector pipes alongside the rocker cover. I might even have been on my best behaviour and added an inline fuse.

I did have to drill a hole in the side of the engine tunnel, forward of the engine, somewhere behind the wee triangular trim panel next to the driver's left knee to pass the cable harness through to the dashboard area. Grommet and split-trunking to protect it.

I also got a stalk control (free) with the CC, but haven't got round to using it yet.

I will give you a tip as I fitted a weaco. If yours comes supplied with scotlocks(the little blue clips that join wires together) don't use them, solder instead. I used them and not one of them made a connection. I then had to redo them all with solder and it is sound now. Get some shrink tubes and cover all ghe joins. Good luck.

I'll second that. Scotchlocks are the work of satan.

Another wee issue I had, was that the CC just stopped working one day. Couldn't work out why, until I removed my LED brake bulbs (because they were not really bright enough IMO) and the CC just started working again. Sort of made sense when I thought about it - the CC kit has a wire to each side of the brake light switch, so it's feasible that it tests the brake bulb circuit to confirm that it's connected to something as a failsafe. With LED bulbs, it would have seen an open circuit.

Ok, so we ran out of time yesterday (fitted a towbar first) so this will have to be a project for a couple of weeks time. It looks reasonably straight forward tho, if a little fiddly in places. If I can work out how to post pictures, I'll try to post pics of the install.

If anyone has a copy of Simon Jones' install guidance (or if the man himself gets my PM), that they could send me in the mean time, that'd be much appreciated, ta

So we got this fitted yesterday, WOW - it's brilliant, really smooth and seems to work perfectly. Looking forward to a summer trip to Austria now to really test it on the autobahns!

I didn't take any pics of the install, but I did do a little video towards the end which I'm just uploading to youtube now, I'll put the link up here when it's finished.

I'd appreciate any comments, especially about the servo thottle cable. It does worry me a little that when I'm using the accelerator pedal, the connector and wire from the servo just seems to dangle around - possible snagging risk?

I believe when the CC is not in use the actuator is not acting on the cable therefor it can slide freely in and out. This means if it does snag it will just slide back and forth. When you were fitting it didn't the cable slide freely inside the sleeve?
It should of course be running paralel with the main cable and it should also be sliding inside the fitting on the end that attaches to the main cable which would mean this is not really possible.

There isn't really enough slack to snag anywhere and there shouldn't be much for it to snag on.

Certainly hasn't happened to mine in almost 40,000 miles.

You're welcome, Scott. It seems to be working well on a trip to derbyshire (just the bloody radiator thats packed up now!).

I'd really appreciate the opinion of some of the more technically minded folks who've already fitted one. Does that install look ok to you guys?
