Roof not working?!?

Okay, i have had a few problems with my Bongo, and I am pleased to say nearly all are user error!!
Still a novice with this van, I know there is a lot to learn.
Anyhow, was going to check the upstairs, and the roof will not go up. Checked fuse, and that is okay. I must admit, I have never had the roof up since I have had it, but saw it going up and down at the dealer.
Am I doing something wrong? Must something be pressed before the roof will go up? Is there a safety switch?
Another stupid question I know.............
Thanks

The handbrake must be on, you must be in 'Park' (assuming automatic), you need the engine running to give yourself enough power. Try these and then ask some more questions from the experts.

Doesn't need to be in Park, but handbrake needs to be on, the switch contacts may need cleaning if that doesn't work, they're under the console cove at the rear of the handbrake.

Thank you, thank you and again thank you.
Another safety feature I was unaware of! Bloody clever the japs even back then. I tend not to leave the handbrake on when it is parked, and that was the reason. Soon as I pulled it up the handbrake, up she went.
I can see many more posts finding their way on these pages,
Thanks again fellow bongonaughts

Oohps sorry - I assumed it needed to be in Park just because you wouldn't want to move the rood when you were moving so I assumed it would need to be on

When we were on holiday last year.....the roof would not go down....

Turned out that the handbrake had been taken off....and so the roof would not go ....

Family were wound up.....wet day...UK summer....and wanted to go out....Check usual suspects.....plus even the top switches.....came on the Fury site...via mobile phone....quick search.....and then looked at the handbrake......doh

found it off.....pulled it up...... and sorted....
Sometimes......the things that "go wrong" are so simple to fix.... by doing something logical....

Neutral for the manuals would be a good idea.

Think you hit the nail on the head there Mike, user error is probably the route of most problems

Don't worry Kawasaki Kid got us out of exactly the same jam in the rain at the Buxton meet, cold, ill, desperate to go home and couldn't get the roof down - seems like a long time ago now.

Could be the contacts in the switch above your head.
Geoff has made a video on how to remove and clean it, pretty simple job.
Otherwise check the contacts at the back of the handbrake.
