My exhaust is looking a bit dodgy in parts, what i want to know is are they readily available at any 'normal' tyre and exhaust centre, or will i have to order it in advance. Obviously i don't want to wait untill it falls off and then be off the road whilst i source a replacement. Hope someone has advice.

If you do a search on "exhaust" and/or "Back box" you'll find loads of advice.

Mostly don't bother fitting a new standard back box as it's basically a waste of space and many kgs of surplus ballast. I personally wouldn't fit another one.

Most exhaust places haven't heard of a Bongo let alone stock a system or any of the parts.

Most common "best advice" is to get a custom made stainless steel system fitted - search on "stainless steel" will turn up recommended fitters.

It would appear that a s/s system is frequently not much dearer than a mild steel "rot box" system and should last for life - either your's or the Bongo's not sure which.

=D> =D> well said Scanner..... I looked at the cost of a full system from O.E quality parts and opted for a Stainless System from these guys MIJ Performance as there isn't much in the price....you can get cheap systems but not worth the bother IMHO--- - I made an appointment, drove up there, chose my tailpipe, left Bongo with them, wandered to Walsall....had a coffee, wandered back....all done..... fit and forget...top job

But - I gotta tell you a story. Driven by the economic depression in civil engineering c1992, I decided to look for cheaper venues where we could run our training courses. Found a friendly little hotel in Walsall (where I had been impressed with some community action work in the 1980s recession that affected North of the Watford Gap) called the County Hotel. Walsall was quite good for transport access and centrally located as a Midlands venue, so I made the bold move of tying up a deal with them to run all our Midlands courses. Delegates got dinner, en suite bedroom (TV in the room) and breakfast for £29 - unbeatable. The daily delegate rate of £14 pd included a really nice lunch, tes & coffees, use of the room etc. The hotel had not really handled regular conference / training work before but after one or two minor hiccups they soon got the hang of it and delegate feedback showed just how much our customers liked going there (no need to go out - food was good, staff were friendly, bar was cheap - why bother). The place had character. Because of that and all the mailings we did, the hotel got better known and trade picked up. More people came to Walsall. Everyone was a winner. That was one decision I was proud of. There's a lesson there somewhere. :P
