Welcome to our club!! Joking aside, the sooty van normally does about 50 to the gallon, but now it's doing about 20

to the gallon  There's no obvious leaks etc,.......Any ideas?? Cheers,Lee. :)

Obvious things to check first I guess are filters, binding brakes, oil level & condition, etc, tyre pressures?
Was this a sudden increase in consumption or gradual? Has it been serviced regularly/properly?

Could it have a leak, or is it possible that some toerag is stealing your fuel?

This won't apply here, but a pal on mine's wife kept complaining that their Range Rover would only do about 20mph and 6mpg.

When he eventually got round to looking at it his kids had pulled the lever into low range.

Exactly where I would start....... When was it last serviced?....... on small engines like the HiJet..... the Air Filter is usually the prime suspect, but if It has not been serviced for a while....... then that is where I would start.......

Hi Kirsty,it was a sudden increase. It has been serviced, but I will check the air filter etc, when she gets home tonight.

It's a 1 litre EFI if that makes any difference,thanks. :)

Could there be a blockage in the air pipe from the filter to the intake?

Once had a coach where the rubber pipe from the air filter collapsed due to the vacuum, fairly large diameter though.
