Should we get a new radiator put on before we go to france this year. We have had quite a few other things done over the last few years like water pump, new hose set, alternator etc. But am now thinking it might be about time to have a new radiator on. No leaks at the moment but its a 12 year old radiator.

It's up to you......... mine went last summer when 32c here in East Angular.......... it split where the plastic and ally join, the coolant alarm never sounded or warning light came on(but then when the coolant is hot it goes way over the sensor position and you would have to lose a good amount of hot coolant before that would sound, probably sufficient enough for it to be sounding a death knell for the head)....... but I smelt the fishy tell tale odour......
Might be worth changing to be belt and braces as you have a few months before you leave blighty..... and as it's getting warmer :^o ..... it will be more comfortable to change if you DIY...... while your at it might be wise to spend an extra £12 or so on a new thermostat.....

We intend to keep bongo for as long as we can so yes it looks like it might be worth getting a new one.

There are a few suppliers on ebay of geniune Mazda radiators & you should be able to get one for under £150 with delivery. Mine started to leak where the plastic bottom section is crimped on to the main core. It's not a big job to change, although it's a lot easier to remove if you take the fans off first. Also, if you've got an automatic gearbox, watch out for the heat exchanger at the bottom of the rad as the ATF will leak out the pipes when you disconnect them. Get ready with large bolt (or similar) to bung the end of the pipes up with.
