New Alternator

Hi All,

Long time no see. My alternator gave up the ghost.
I fitted the new one in under an hour, it's very easy. As long as you know what a spanner looks like you shouldn't have any problems.

Great to hear from you after all this time :D

Hope life and Bongoing are treating you OK

How did you find it trying to decide how much slack to leave in the alternator belts (I know the various bits of advice often given on here but am always interested to know how someone made the decision between not-too-tight and not-too-slack)?

PS - the BMW clock you sold me way back when, is still ticking away happily :D

Hi Mike and Bwiched,

Lifes good, my 3 girls are all well and smiling (most the time). House is up for sale moving to a git big'un if we ever sell the bugger.

Have I missed and forum dramas in my absence?

I was told that I should not be able to twist the belts more then half way by hand. I tried twisting them before I took them off and they twisted just over a quarter of the way. After fitting the new alternator and fitting the belts they twisted just about the same. I've had no problems so far and will be checking my work at the weekend.

Cheers,
Gary

Main thing is that you don't tighten them too much & knacker alternator or water pump bearings.
Dramas on this forum? - surely not

All sounds good your end.

I'm such a cloth ears that dramas can be going on all around me and be long gone by the time I realise there's been one
