Brake pads

I have to admit I'm a complete numpty when it comes to vehicle maintenance, i usually get others to do the job or at least watch over me while i try to do it myself.
I have bought some front brake pads for the bongo and i am gonna try to do this myself.
I was wondering, is this an easy job for a moron like me, or should i just go to wheelquick and get them to fit them for me.

You sound just like I feel. In principal I can usually work out what to do, but is the resultant blooded nuckle and fretting really worth it? I never have the best tools for the job either

Now if I was in striking distance of Wheelquick.....I know what I would do

only problem is I would end up coming home with a new van every time

It's an easy enough job Dave, but not worth the risk if you're not totally happy doing it

I found it surprisingly easy even though I'd never done disc pads before. One the other hand, as franco says, maybe it's not worth the risk if you are not happy about it becuase it should be a quick job for an experienced Bongo mechanic so labour charges shouldn't be too much. If you do do it yourself though, you can take more time cleaning things up and ligthly greasing with coppaslip. I found a smallish g- clamp and a small piece of wood (for placing against the piston so I didn't damage its face) worked well for pushing the piston back in (you won't get the new pads in unless you do as the pistons will have come out to meet the old worn ones. And remove the top of the brake fluid reservoir and put an old rag around it just in case the brake fluid overlows as you push the piston in (mine didn't but...). And don't lose any of the little bits and pieces (retaining clips, anti-rattle shims etc.).
Good luck

Cheers Mike, will have to get some copper slip, got a g clamp, and the brakes came with clips so will replace the old ones.

Should go just fine. The main problem I had was working out what shims to put where as what comes with the new ones may not match up exactly (different makers) with the old ones. But a bit of thought and head scratching and I worked it out. On my own. In the rain. With darkness coming on. No-one brought me a cup of tea.
Seek sympathy? Moi?
