Bongo Fury

Where does it meet the body? My fuel gauge is completely out. Contacts have been cleaned and I would like to find and clean the earth point next. Alternatively I know I can make a temp earth by sanding down the top of the sender and earthing it to the body there. Any clues greatly appreciated.

easiest and quickest way is to ground the whole tank, at several points there is a 'lip' where the 2 halves meet, simply drill a hole n use a self tapper to connect a wire and find a nearby nut, most of them are 10mm in that area and jobs done! Julian

I have this problem, and was excited when I saw there was a possible fix, then I realised I have a floor, bed and wardrobe unit built in over that point! does this mean I have to get a mechanic to come in from underneath and remove the tank? or is that not possible?

I did fix one and had to run a new earth right to the base of the sender inside the tank

Was that knocking around out of the vehicle for a while? It's got a lot of surface rust on it. This was mine from the V6 and it's electro plated so looks good as new.

I have rigged a lead with a small croc clip on each end (test lead size rather than 12v jump lead size) simply by lifting the driver's seat and clipping one croc clip into the nearest hole in the tank flange and the other one onto a convenient piece of body work further forward (note the 'into' and 'onto', as appropriate).

Instant cure. No scraping or screwing at either point.

I removed it in seconds for the duration of the van's recent MoT test, being mindful of the new rule about loose wires, and replaced it in seconds on returning home!

When I next fancy crawling underneath (which might not be until about April) I will make a proper job of it. For the moment it works just fine and quickly proved that 99% of advice here on the subject is right, it is not usually the sender at fault.

No idea I took it from a scrap Bongo as a spare as mine wasn't working, the last owner told me he had tried earthing it but it needed a new one, I got this and fixed it then found my own was just a bad eatrth
