Bongo Fury

Could someone help me with the above problem. In the recent heavy rain I went through what I thought was shallow water, but which turned out to be quite deep and the heat sensor light came on. I was advised by the breakdown service that the lampda sensor has probably been affected by the water and to leave it a short while to see if it would dry out. The light is still on so I assume the sensor is now no good. I spoke tothe nearest garage that deals with Bongos and was told that it would cost £70 +vat for diagnostics report + £120.00 for the sensor + fitting. It seems rather expensive as the van is running well,but I dont know if Im doing any damage by using it. Is it an easy job to do, and where can I source a sensor. Im not particularly mechanical minded but am willing to try if there is simple instructions out there. PLEASE HELP! Thanks Kazanne

Hopefully you haven't cracked the catalytic convertor by suddenly cooling it through the water - that could cause the lamp to come on

I assume it is a v6 then don't think the later 2l has them fitted and it only seems to be the early v6ers that have them

If it the heat sensor it does nothing apart from tell you your cat pipe has overheated, prob due to raw fuel entering the exhaust system due to a missfire, goin on my experiances you prob took a missfire from the water and that has killed the heat sensor, is it still missfiring I just disconnected it, the light will do what it normally does go out after you start up follow the wire to the connector under the passenger seat it is a jap extra optional extra, not ecu read and it doesn't affect your fueling, as for the lambda don't jump to conclusions it prob may not have been affected but you will need to test it to be sure, i did mine on the bench with a blow torch and multimeter, although i could tell when my lambda was goosed cause the van was really hangin back , i did replace the lambda with a universal one at a later date for £47, you will need to get to the bottom of the water ingress, dizzy cap o ring missing is hot favourite closely followed by the rear driverside plug, but as i say dont condemn your lambda str8t away it may be fine, if in doubt you can get a fault code if you know someone with a scanner.

Remember the heat sensor and lambda are not connected in anyway the heat sensor does not control your fuelling as far as i know infact i'm sure and mine has passed 2 mots without it i would not waste the dosh on it.

TRUST ME THE V6 DON'T LIKE LOTS OF STANDING WATER, i sorted my o ring a long time ago but still get grief from the rear plug on driverside with water ingress. the prob is that if you hit lots of standing water it comes up through the scav fan on a direct collision course with the dizzy cap, it also sits on the rocker cover aswell untill you go up hill then it ends up in the rear plug not well designed, you can cut a 2ltr icecream container up and make a shroud for the cap works really well.

Thanks cheffy its not the first time have had a problem but last time it went off after a day. The van didn missfire at all and hasnt done since. Seems fine running really well, its just that sometimes we pull a small caravan and I was worried it might affect this. Dontknow anyone with a scanner and my usual mechanic seems to have disapeared. Dont know anyone around the Southend on Sea/Westcliff area with a bongo or anyone who fixes them. Dont think I am up to what you suggest to try, not sure what to do now? Anyone know a bongo fixer this part of essex. Yes it is a N Reg V6 Petrol. Regards Kazanne

Have you checked the bongo friendly garage list in the members area?

Strange it went off after a day usually when they are lit it stays lit, is it braking off where it enters the cat pipe take a brave pill and av a butchers

Me? Im the cowardly lion. Is what breaking off and where in the cat pipe is it? Perhaps Ill just disconnect it and forget about it! Regards Kazanne
