Is the scavenger fan sensor the same as the 'engine bay sensor here?

Well that's usefull, because bongobits.com want £80 for the sensor when you can get them for £16.99 from ignitioncarparts.co.uk

I'm not paying £60 for a small bit of plastic when I dont even know whether my current one is faulty or not...

Deviating slightly but in the same vein, when should the scavenge fan operate & can you hear it when it does? On both of my Bongo's I have never been aware of it operating.

I thik there's a sticky thread on this forum somewhere for compatible parts. If the bit fits and works as it should, do us all a favour and add details on there.

IMO not very often, I don't think it's there to cool the engine as such, just remove the heat from the engine bay, more to protect external components & stop the cab getting too hot. There's an investigation going on into the ecu function ATM, which should hopefully answer this one once & for all

You can hear it but it's not very noticable. Ours doesn't often operate but I certainly noticed it when ours overheated.

If you have manual aircon, then turn ignition on (but don't start engine) and press aircon button in, as I think that starts the scavenger fan up and you can hear what it sounds like. Apologies if you already know this.

That's what I'm trying to remember. I think the scavenger fan kicks in, but I wonder if (one?) rad fan kicks in too. I suggest the user takes a peek to see what is turning. I mentioned it because it might be a quick way of provoking the scavenger fan into coming on so you can hear what it sounds like(not much use for noise recognition purposes though if a rad fan comes on too!).

Or they could just be a smartypants and fit a scavenger fan over-ride switch like moi!

well this Mike says.......... yes..... the rad fans when you press the A/C button on a manual air con model.....

I test the scavenger fan every spring. First pull the connector off the sensor and short the connector...fan works. Next, connect it back up and play a salon type hairdryer on the sensor...when its hot ...fan works. It rarely switches on, and it only kicks in here after the car has been parked for 10 minutes in summer when the air temp is around the mid 40s plus. If you leave the car parked for 20 mins/ 1/2 hour, the engine cools a bit, heat is lost from the engine compartment , and it won't kick in.
The answer...you're unlikely to hear it, because it hardly ever works
