Bongo Fury

Since the cold weather started, I've had problems with my fuel guage. It will read half a tank one minute and then empty the next and so on....all over the place. Very confusing and I'm constantly paranoid and have now lost track of how much I might have in there. Right pain in the rear!

Is this a common problem? Is there an easy way of replacing the sender unit? I have a feeling it is that rather than the guage but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Once you get to the top of the tank, try disconnecting the connector on the top of the sender, then start the ignition & wait a couple of minutes & see what the gauge does..? I should move to the full position... (regardless of how much fuel is in the tank.) If NOT then it could actually be the fuel gauge itself!??

Now that could be coming from any where... Like a dodgy oil filter seal..?

Can you be more specific..? Where about's under the van is it dropping?

I know...can't believe it has an oil leak!

DH says he thinks it is the front of the engine. He's very annoyed as it could obviously be any number of seals.

If the leak is on the drivers side of the engine just below the air inlet manifold, most have it, nowt to worry about, blanking the egr may help http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=14463. Or it could be a slight weep from the rocker cover gasket, which may just need tightening down.
If it's coming from below the fuel pump & smells a bit dieselly, could be the fuel pump seals, there's a fact sheet on repalcing these I think & Ian stocks the seals in the club shop.

Well, my son and I just got back from the cinema and dh had just finished the fuel guage job. I just put my mats back in whilst he had lunch and noticed that the guage is now reading half a tank without the key in the ignition! That ain't right is it?

He's just asked me to ask if anyone can tell us where the fuel guage fuse is please? He wants to check it.

It should stay where it is with the ignition off, thats normal.

Unless of course its showing half a tank when you've just filled it, thats not.

Ah ok, I always thought it went back to empty when you turned the ignition off. We're gonna go fill her up in a mo and see how many litres it takes to fill. If its half 65 then it should be workin fine hopefully and we'll take it from there. DH did what everyone here advised though by re earthing and testing with meter etc...thanks everyone and fingers crossed. Watch this space!

If it's anything like mine, it'll show overfull when you fill it, & will take a while to start coming down as you use it, certainly not linear, as it says in the factsheet

Saying that, mine is at the opposite end of the scale. It only shows about seven eighths when brimmed but will drop below the E & still have 15/20 litres left.

I can play Fuel Guage Roullette for a good 50 miles & still only manage to squeeze 50 litres in.
