Bongo Fury

1st post here ladies & gentlemen - & it's a drama!

Sometime between getting in on Friday evening & saturday morning I managed to loose my one & only key for my Bongo. It has now turned into a useless ornament on my drive. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a key when no original is available to copy? Can Mazda source one from the chassis number?

Serves me right for bragging to others about how good my Bongo is (was?) in the snow I suppose. And yes I know I should have had some spares made so please don't berate me, I am a forum virgin so be gentle with me.

Welcome Alactrity. Have a search on hre using words like 'lost' and 'key' etc. as someone else had this happen to them recently and I think possibly a good outcome was achieved and quickly.

And get some spares cut ASAP

The ever helpful Ian has sent me the members only info required for getting in and also that the key number is on the barrel Could someone please tell me if it is in full view or whether the old lock has to be removed to find the number. The poor Bongo is 65 miles from where I live so want to get it right first time.

Got it sorted by a locksmith in the end, damn expensive though at £140.00 + vat. That will teach me! I could have done it myself following the instructions I got from Ian etc. But due to the very low temperatures I was worried a) that the door glass may shatter as I 'broke in' to the car (had one do that once to me at work) & b) the plastic rod ends that have to be removed from the lock barrell to get it out are known to be brittle at the best of times & I could see me ending up with the key number but broken rod ends. Plus it was cold & wet on my drive. Had I known it was going to be that much I may have thought twice. New keys are good though, no 'wriggling' required to get them (got two now ) to work, good as original.
