Bongo Fury

as a relative newcomer to this site, i think i have read just about every thread related to overheating , and i am now more confused than when i started.

i fully realise the importance of having early warning of overheating ,( and the costs of not having it ) but what i now cannot figure out is ,what devices do i need as protection. there seems to be alot of options

the TM2 appeals to me for its digi readout etc ,but i do,nt think this covers early warning of coolant loss.

so to clarify things can someone please, give me a list/name of what i need , and equally important where to get each device.

as to installing these things, well that comes later !!!

the cost of these items is relatively unimportant , compared to the possible costs of not having them

how will i know when that fact sheet is out, and where will i find it ????

and if it overheats between now and then , life as i know it will end , could not live without my bongo

did,nt mind the wife going but the bongo is altogether much more serious !!!!!!!

Short term, the 1st & cheapest option is to stck a Mason in.

A twelve year old can fit it in fifteen minutes & will give you a frontline warning of any temp increase.

Even cheaper is the gauge "free" upgrade....(well !! 3p)

Hold steady........ even when the fact sheet is produced..... it will be a case of choice and you pays your money......
Have you seen any of the gizmo's on a Bongo and spoken to owners yet?..... If not I would do and keep your cash in your wallet for now...... then choose what you want to have....All of the gizmo's have their merits..

For me, I ran 3 months without a Low Coolant Alarm and a further year without anything else...... and I spotted/smelt my coolant leak well before the alarm did, in fact it never did as I never allowed it too......I fitted another device after that coolant loss due my radiator seam leaking, for my own curiosity and for no other reason

Yep the kid could install it while they're trying to hot-wire the thing...!

I got alot of respect for Haydn & Dave M... I got a Mason fitted thas all, & the Mase did warn me to stop when my top hose went in Oct 08.. But that ain't to say it's NOT a good idea to have something to warn you yer loosing coolant in the first place!!

I'm biased toward the TM-2 for 2 reasons:

1 - That is what I fitted to my Bongo and I am thoroughly chuffed with it
2 - it gives a readout in actual degrees C, not 'o-clocks'
There is another reason to do with dumbing a dumb gauge and getting a double dumb answer (measured in o'clocks)

Whichever unit you choose, NONE of them will prevent problems happening, but you will get an early warning so that you can deal with it before it starts to get into the cost zone.

Exactly...... nothing beats checking your levels in the 1st instance....BEFORE you drive off into the distance....then the gizmo you choose to haveon your Bongo can warn you of anything untoward.....while you are out and about


To check my level I use a chop stick that I have made a groove in to mark the correct level of coolant in the Header Tank....plastic, wipe clean and fits in the Leisure battery tray.... sorted...

The Low Coolant Alarm checks the coolant level for you EVERY time you switch on the ignition.....How many peeps check the level every day let alone every time they switch on.....

proposed factsheet sent to HQ for editing etc.....It may seem to some to be a bit of advertising. I was aware of this and tried to be constructive and give my honest opinion. But seeing that as far as I know I produce/import and sell 95% of them it was difficult to make it seem anything other than a series of advertising material.....It's done now and may be of use to some. Anyone want to add anything ...please contact Ian......
