Does anyone else get a "clunk" noise from the rear differential (i assume) when engaging "drive" on an auto box? I am hoping it is normal as the box engages the prop shaft....
Any advice welcome...

very slight clunk every now and then not a CLUNK clunk if that makes any sense (on my old bongo not my new manual one )

Yep, it is not a huge clunk, but a clunk none the less. I guess the long prop shaft from the gear box to the rear diff would allow for some free play and lead to some movement when going from neutral into drive... and as the drive wants to spin the prop shaft the diff takes up the slack with a "clunk."
Not sure if any of that makes sense.....
Thanks

Yup I can get the clunk also. It doesn't happen much and I think its because I plant my foot on the brake before doing it, which I believe I read somewhere is what you are supposed to do. Try it and see if you get an improvement

Are you sure it is clunking at the diff? I had a similar problem, which A garage advised
changing the propshaft.I got another propshaft and got it fitted, guess what!not the shaft
after all.It was the gearbox short on oil, changed the oil to the correct level and the clunk
stopped. If it is the propshaft I still have it spare.

Could be any of the above or the transfer box if the chain has stretched
