Bongo Fury

Hello

Can some one please help!
I need to have a complete exhaust on my 1995 bongo, i have found a place that sells them for £139.00 which is great so far BUT i can not get a straight answer on how many gaskets / rubbers mountings and anything else that i would need .. If some could please just list these bits i would be so grateful as not having much idea whats underneath even when i get on my hands and knees !!

If it's a complete system then the gaskets should be supplied as part of the kit - can't remember just how many there are I'm afraid. The existing rubber hangers are quite probably reusable - mine were. I think that there are two of these at the back & one at the mid-section. Too cold, snowy & dark to go & count them at the moment though If you can't get straight answers from the supplier then I'd think about talking to one who specialises in Bongos. For what it's worth,, I used Bongobits.

mine had a small hole just before where the rear box joins the front section...... and I added up the costs of a full system and gaskets and then I went for a full Stainless system ...all fitted ... never to have to worry about it again.... worked out about £30 more.... you pays your money and all that...... got mine from MIJ Performance or Wallsal

mine had a small hole just before where the rear box joins the front section

I strongly urge anyone with damage in this spot to deal with it before it breaks. Mine broke and fell into the road on a start up. The results of a dropped box acting like a vaulting pole while you are moving could be catastrophic to your rear trim.

Hopefully this didn't happen to Mike and I thnk he did the right thing going stainless especially if the replacement rear box isn't as gigantic as the original.

No it didn't break off..... it started to blow, so as far as I am concerned..... replace.... and yes I did get one with a more svelte rear box.... I could have chosen the tail pipe from the silencer from the orignal round or Oval to square type and also I could have twin outlet too....... as well as larger bore.... I just went for the usual singe outlet as per original
There are cheapy mild steel exhausts out there as well as better quality ones... but if you add up the price of a good mild steel with all the bits n bobs...... you might as well go stainless..... never to worry about it again.....

Indeed Frank. Mine went like that on the motorway and looking at it I reckoned I was lucky it didn't vault - could have done some damage to the underside.

£139 sound v. cheap for a complete system - I wonder what the quality is like?

Stainless steel tempts me when the time comes (though thanks to Mister Munkey and to Muzorewa I've been able to replace back and middle sections with their lefftovers) as long as it doesn't make the Bongo noisier (you need to get the correct back box on it I beleive)

Sure do Mike...... mine is as quiet or quieter than the standard job..... without the middle silencer.....

I would say it is down to the Tailpipe choice being the key to how loud the exhaust is..

You can buy and fit yourself or drive to them and pay another £25 and they will fit it.....'nuff said....

Thanks Mike - your post on the noise issue is very reassuring as that was my only concern. When mine fails, I'll be up for that.
