Surely, Not Another Overheating Post!

Heres the rub.

Spent last night at the Allithwaite Xmas dinner do. Running up, all was well although front heater was noticably cooler than normal. Parked up & left engine on tickover for 15 mins or so to build a bit of heat up & Mr Mason started chirping.

Gauge just below the H, shut it down, checked coolant, level was fine, bottom hose cold & no heat at all coming from either front or rear blowers.

This morning left the meet, hit the chirps again within half a mile. Spent 45 minutes doing a little over a mile in 4 stages to get to Grange Over Sands, found a pub & rang the RAC.

To his credit, the Very Nice Man recognised what the Bongo was & realised that it was outside his comfort zone to start messing with the plumbing & got us recovered on a flatbed.

Bongo is now at local doctors to be looked at in the morning. I've advised possible thermostat or water pump problem although both are relatively new, wondered if anyone has any other possible pointers?

Had a back flush fifteen hundred miles ago. Methinks possibly some crud had been loosened off & blocked up the rad but there could be a variety of things that give the same symptoms.

Must add though, this is a pretty good example of how the Haydn/Mason duo work so well together.

I consider myself lucky that I've saved £1200 today.

Tea and sympathy mate, hope it gets sorted. Rad as per Jaylee? Or Pump?

If it was rad or stat, it wouldn't affect the heaters as they are permanently circulating on basically a bypass circuit, I'd go with water pump as John said, or an airlock maybe, so level hadn't dropped?

Do I detect a pattern that the 'Munkey Mobile' doesn't like being in Cumbria? Did you not have a hose problem there before?

I hope all is sorted for your Scottish Christmas adventure, we have polished the street signs specially for the Munkey family, and from being on the hills today, lots of special Christmas snow effects!

Oh b****r.....you should have called into our place...at least tea (or strong black coffee) and sympathy + phone access...you must have literally passed our back door.

Sounds very like a packed up waterpump. Mine went a week (and 2,500km) after the belt had been 'tightened' during a service prior to departing for the south of France. Got all the way to Provence before it went bang. Unfortunatly at that time there were no coolant alarms on the open market.

Good luck.

ps. It's not a Cumbria jinx...Silvergale is in Lancashire.

Oh, that makes it worse, could we have the world first genetically Yorkshire Bongo, that panics when it goes into Lancashire? :D

Well it does have a white rose on the bullbars. I recon the locals sabotage it when it comes into the red rose county. Come to think of it this part of Cumbria used to be in Lancashire and we do have a cadre of the 'Campaign for Real Lancashire' front resident around here.
