Diesel timing on a Bongo

Hello there,

a bit of advice for all you folks - use a Bongo specialist garage!!!!

The pump on mine wasn't set to any marks at all simply put on where it looked like it had previously been set!

Anyway - timing up the diesel injector - how is it done? What marks to look for?

It is smoking a little and pinking (not as bad as it was since I adjusted the timing by ear!)

Any pointer will be greatly appreciated,

Cheers, Russ

Hi Russ
There should be a timing mark on the end of the injector pump sprocket, this lines up with a pointer which is part of the casting of the engine block. It should be in the right place when the engine is at TDC with number 1 cylinder in the firing stroke. looking straight on to the sprocket it is about 10 oclock. This mark is rather hard to see as the floor pan is in the way (try a mirror).Fine tuning is done with a DTI in the rear of the pump, this is best left to a expert :D
What do you mean when you say there is pinking? Is there a knocking from the engine?
