Bongo Fury

Hi All,

I've had ongoing issues with my battery/leisure battery/split relay which I'm trying to sort...

The other month, after the battery going flat the side door refused to open.. You could flick the latch up and down but the noise it made was hollow and not the normal central locking sound it used to make.. Anyways, out of the blue the other week it started opening again, but when closing the electical mechanism doesn't kick in and so am having to close it quite hard to get it to close.

Any ideas on how I can get this working again properly??

Once I've established this, am gonna take it to the garage to get this, the split relay, battery, wing mirror and fan blowing issues all sorted out..

You could start by cleaning both sets of the contacts on the door post and the door, to make sure they are conducting OK . Sounds as if it may be related to your on going problems with the electrics though.

The other day I had my central locking motor replaced in the sliding door. Whilst it was all apart the guy kindly showed me it all working. There are quite a few levers etc for the locks, and there is a motor with an arm that does an arc to pull in the door via a cable to close it. I believe a lever or catch can become unhinged or move out slightly and need resetting.

Look at the diagrams on lushprojects, maybe worth removing the trim panel and taking a look for something obvious.

Cleaning contacts first is a good idea, also wait a while for other comments as there are some very clever people on there and there maybe a more obvious and common problem.

So I've had an auto electrician take a look at various problems, including this one, and he's not sure what's wrong with the side door.. some of the pins have plastic round them, some have the plastic stuck in, some of the pins are stuck in themselves... I think maybe my friend slammed the door too hard one time and now it's broken the console bit on both sides.. Can these be replaced?

Does anyone have photos of what the fully operational door sensor bits look like close up please?!

Only three of the pins are used, the other two aren't sprung at all and are meant to be recessed so that's not a problem
The foam bits do degrade over time, but I recall someone cutting up an old Mouse mat for the foam to replace them, a couple of layers were needed I recall. I'll take a photo later today of ours.

Glad to see the rubbers on your sliding door are looking as manky and perished as mine.

This post has saved me a lot of work (thanks Kitegirl) as I was about to photograph mine (it is sunny today), put up a piccy and ask if anything could be done about the perished rubbers.

All questions answered here, thanks Mike. Won't be chopping up my new Bongo mousemat though. Need to remember where my old one has been "filed" (it wasn't in the bin, where it should have gone - probably just as well )

Well I must admit when I saw the idea of using a Mouse mat I took an old spare one down to make some measurements, but then realised that despite the looks of the foam, its not actually cracked and is still very flexible. The appearance is down, I think, to the flexibility of the foam so its wrinkled but not actually broken anywhere, and certainly there hasn't been any moisture getting into the inner section that I have noticed. So give it a good squeeze and squash before deciding on a new rubber ... oh err ...

Thanks very much people!! Will ask my man to have another look when he fixes the fan resistor. I think it might not be the prongs but some motor that it should work with?? Does anyone know where that's located?? I'll have a look for this factsheet then... thanks again, you're most helpful!!
