Bongo Fury

has anybody installed an aftermarket temp gauge??
they seem fairly cheap to buy!

also if they run that cold why not tape rad up to get temp up by
restricting air flow?
something we used to do with 2 stroke race bikes in cold weather.

I still think it's your stat - nobody would make a car that runs cold all the time, as it's not fuel efficient (nor comfortable in winter )
If it's the same as the diesel cooling system, your radiator hardly comes into play, so blocking the airflow would do nothing to help. Most of the cooling is done by the heater rads.

I have spoken to Mike at wheelquick who has sold a few 2.0l Bongos.......the first one he thought was running very cool....since then with experience of more 2.0l's he has accepted they all run cool......Stop fretting....be thankful it's not running Hot..
After market gauges.....see web shop link below....I am about to put some new (to this country) Temp gauges/alarms in there.

But how cool is cool? I can't believe Mazda would design a vehicle with only a lukewarm heater, in a country where they sometimes need 2 batteries because of the cold (unless the 2 litres come with 8 thermal suits as standard ) The only car I've ever known with heating so bad, was an air-cooled Beetle

i'll post this here.... ok i spent the morning at wheelquick, they removed the stat (yes there was one in there) only to find it was not closing 100%... they put a new one in and BINGO! my needle is going to the 11 oclock position and staying there (even in heavy traffic on the way home) and my heaters are blowing what you would call normal temp. went out in it tonight to see how long it took to heat up from cold and it was about 1 mile (ish) so fingers crossed it seems to be sorted...
Mike sr. has a theory based on how many he has seen like this now that it is being done on perpose in japan, in summer when it his hot????
as the stats look like they have been 'made' to do it?..... so my first port of call will be to check your stat.... mike also said that because they run the same rad s the 2.5TD it holds a hell of alot of water, way more water than the petrol engine needs....

Well, there you go then.....What do I know ??

Could it have been a Fail Safe stat that was fitted.

Allans has seen several with the thermostats drilled out.

That sounds very suspicious.

Several of the same model "modified" in that way.
