what does this lever do?

Im about to buy a workshop manual but I think they are out of stock at present.
Meanwhile could someone tell me what the above lever does and what position it should be in.
2000 Diesel 4WD.
The Japanese instructions on a nearby sticker dont help either.

winter to summer driving, close in winter open in summer, simplezzzz
not 100% sure but its to do with the air flow into the engine and fans.

As DBO said it is a summer / winter flap - it is in the winter position in the picture - move it forward for the summer position. :)

Nothing to do with it :wink: The lever is just for the air intake for the aircon, nowt to do with the engine, air intake for that is on the other side under the bonnet in front of the starter battery.
Winter kit gubbins is part of the exhaust under the passenger seat (on those with it fitted obviously :wink: )
