Bongo Fury

Was thinking of getting one of these for doing the cills etc. Anyone used one?

I've got one, but you should consider getting the extension pipe to fit on it for access into the sills. It's just a plastic pipe with a nail in the end to produce a fan shaped spray. I found the tube was too bendy, so fixed it to a coathanger wire so it was easier to handle.

I know everyone recommends to thin the Waxoyl with white spirit, but I found that heating the can in hot water allowed me to get a very runny liquid which sprayed easily, yet set to the normal thick consistency.

I know its obvious but make sure you cover up especially around the face and use a mask..........this stuff stinks!!!!!!! its also a good idea to cover the paintwork on the Bongo to avoid the spray mist getting on it,it will wax off but just saves a bit of effort later!!

If you can afford it wait untill Aldi, Lidl or Netto have compessors on offer. I got a superb one from Aldi the parrafin gun supplied with it waxoiloed superb without the need to thin or heat it, spray gun is brilliant to.

That's good to know Mel, was wondering how good those ones were, keep holding back on buying one, but I keep coming up with jobs it'd be useful for.

Good, simple piece of kit. The Lidl/Aldi sounds better. But whatever the job needs doing regularly.

I've tried the pressure vessel sprayer with the flexible tube attachement, but I'm having problems. The waxoyl is coming out fairly runny (I've thinned it with 500ml white spirit) but the spray is running more like a stream of water and clogs quickly when you stop the flow. I have tried it on one sill and there is literally gallons of waxoyl going in, but I was imagining a fine spray rather than rivers of the stuff. I am pumping the pressure vessel up until the valve starts to hiss..... am I doing it right??? I was hopong the tube with the "nail" in the end would produce a nice even 360 degree spray.... Do you expect a fair bit to run out of the drain holes underneath?

Hi,in this weather you have to get the waxoyl warm enough to melt the wax.

If you remove the blanking grommets on the side of the sill, and the one at the rear of the sill at the bottom of the wheel arch,then work your way from the back to the front.
It will take as mutch waxoyl as you put in,just use your discretion.

You have to melt the wax or you will leave it in the tin,and you will just be spraying oil and white spirit.

Yes, it was sat in a bucket of very hot water for ages. I was hoping the tube would give a fine spray rather than a "hose pipe" effect sluicing gallons of waxoyl around the place.

Try a reducer at the end of the tube.

How many gallons did you buy.

I've seen waxoyl applied many times but I've never seen the 'hose pipe' effect. If you're certain that the waxoyl is hot enough to melt the wax, and the sprayer nozzle is OK, then I can only guess that maybe you added too much white spirit... and did you mix it well?

I noticed that you added 500ml of White Spirit,what quantity of waxoyl did you add it to.

It seems a lot.

I got the 2.5litre pressure can.

The instructions on the extension tube say to thin with 10-20% spirit, so 20% of 2.5 litres is 500ml.

What I want is a compressor gun with an extension tube with a 360 degree spray nozzle that sprays out a mist or close to a fine spray rather than gloop. But I can't really justify a compressor at >£100 for one job.

Does anyone in/near Wales fancy loaning me theirs for a few quid? I'd pay a fair price and clean up after. I only want to do the sills/box sections. I'll get a garage to do the mucky underseal.
