Bongo Fury

When we bought our bongo the seller had kindly removed the Jap radio and replaced it with a UK one. Unfortunately the replacement is not the best (rather ugly and with no cd and ipod socket) We would like to replace the radio, which fits virtually the whole 'double' radio slot, however when I made initial enquiries in Halfords, there was some concern that it would be non standard (only Bongo commercial came up on their database and no compatable radios). I would anticipate the wiring etc to be OK (since the replacement radio works fine) but before I go and buy a replacement unit, I would like to get some reasurance regarding fit. Can any of you kind folks give some advice, as to size of unit and taking up the slack with a suitable cubby hole etc.
Any help would be grately appreciated.

any singl din willfit with a cubby length dependant as there is a bar behind

a wire converter can be got very easy its a standard mazda to iso loom (i could have name wrong)

Dash hole is a standard double din, you can get units from any decent supplier, not Halfrauds, they're worse than useless! Lots of fairly decent suppliers on Fleabay, dont always be put off by them being abroad, just be aware you run the risk of having import tax added.

Or fit a single din and a cubby box, maybe one with a clock from Haydn?

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but when folks refer to a 'single din' does that mean a standard radio unit size. are all the audio units prety much interchangable in overall dimensions? I understand the cubby box bit. I asume the ones Haydn supplies fit into the remaining opening in the bongo facia. Is that correct? Again apologies if this is a very obvious question to most folks.

Head units generally come in either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size. The depth is not standardized. The US standard for a DIN radio is 2" x 7" and the Double DIN sized radio is a 4" x 7".

Almost all manufacturers conform to the standard so swapping out and replacing is fairly easy.

Yes to both questions Aldi and Lidl often have pretty good units, for about £50, with CD, USB and SD card slots and remote control.

Thanks all. I get it now. The main problem I will probably have is getting the radio out. I think it looks as if it was put in with a hammer Not sure I could cope with a remote control....Its bad enough the kids having blind and air con controls let alone control of the music. Only so much take that a man can endure.

Have a look down the front sides of the unit for any holes in which to insert a stereo removal tool... Or see if there is a plastic "shroud" on the head unit, tthese clip off to insert the removal tools into slots under the plastic trim. Inserting the tool(s) releases the locking tabs, then (sometimes with a push from behind) the unit should slide free of it's cage. Be careful whilst handling the cage, i've suffered many deep cuts from man handling them in the past!

Only my own!

JAL have offered to fit a SONY Gt430U radio/CD/MP3 player to my 2003 Bongo Aero so that model of radio will fit. Don't know if its any good mind you !!!!

A SONY anything is generally pretty good! I have one fitted in my bongo!

Seems good for the money
