New Bongo stereo problem

Hi wondering if anyone can help as running out of ideas.
I installed a new stereo in the bongo today, it worked when tested but returned later in the day and on starting the engine the display no longer works, audio is fine and sounds good but no display.
old stereo wasnt the original, it was put in a few years ago by previous owner and after removing left me with a box thing that is part of all the wiring that the stereo is connected to, also the old stereo was partly pluged into it, not sure if its original or not. should I remove it some how?
I installed using the mazda PC2-10-4 wiring harness, was left with the ground wire hanging but couldnt see an obvious place to put it. where should it go?
Ill try replacing the fuse but dont wont them to keep blowing if thats the problem, so woundering do I need to change any wires round on the connecters to stereo, it looks like some dont match up witth in the wiring harness.
If anyone has any ideas would be great to hear from ya
cheers
jim
