ok im on the road to getting the bongo back on the road.
new battery is in and new hose on with (hopefully) a succesfull bleed
ive got a problem (which might be why the original battery died) where when i start the van up my passengerside headlight is quite dim and the full beam dashboard light is dimly lit.....after driving around for a while it seems to sort itself out. Is it likely to be an alternator/charging problem?

Ahh!
Mine does that on the drivers side & the high beam light dimly glimmers too.
Give it a clout to the headlamp & it comes back up again. Failing that, take a look at the block connector at the back of the bulb & give it a wiggle to see if that works. Chances are yours is the same as mine & has melted a bit hence losing power.
Short term I've just cleaned up the contacts & it seems ok at the mo but will need a new connector block & a check of the earth to see whats caused the fault.

Hi i had that problem too, check your connectors on the back of the headlight filament. mine were melted and had to replace them with new, only cost a fiver for 2 new connectors from japautotrader parts. easy enough to do if you've got a crimping tool.

seems to be a common problem -for the moment we have also resorted to jiggling the connector a bit.

I had this phenomenon intermittently for a while... The connector blocks were visually fine, yet the connector on one block seemed a bit "loose"... I cleaned up the connectors, and crimped in the female bits for a tighter fit... No probs with it since i fiddled with it a couple of years back.
