has anyone used the copy cylinder heads and are they any good?

No but have heard of loads of problems like holes not lining up

Since such a large part of the cost of replacing the head is labour (either paying a garage or your own time) I wouldn't gamble trying to save the difference in price of parts.

well ive bought a genuine mazda head for $1100 as it comes complete with the bleed pipe bit valve stem seals etc
mazdz genuine head gasket $160 .All the bits i will use will be genuine Maxda apart from the head bols as they are a stupid price @ 12-28£ each.
To give an idea it took me 1.45 hrs to remove the head and stripp off the cam.i will post the refit times next week as i will refit it mon tues

NZ$ to £ divide by 2.2 used to be 2.9 ( it was when we sent our money here)

Remember to thoroughly clean the block - face it up with a surface block if possible

Good decision. 1:45 - By 'eck, what it is to be young and fit. Take time to do the job properly and good luck - keep us posted.

PS - are you fitting a low coolant alarm? Can't remember what caused your problems but there are so many tales of unnoticed coolant loss leading to an overheat etc.......

Im using a tM2 and the head has been gone throughout my ownership i think.
As to speed having the right tools helps and so does cordless impact guns, and getting tools ready speeds thinks up all you need is
10mm spanner and socket
12 ...............................
14mm............................
17mm spanner
14mm multi spline socket
breaker bar
screw driver posi and flat

Preparation is the key
