Bongo Fury

Well it's been a while folks

Billy-Bob is sick. Over heating big time and with a small drip from the coolant. And then, after taking it to a garage to see if they can fix the dripping hose they tell me that the water pump is leaking, Bad? No, wait. After the garage visit it has started over heating much sooner and boiling the water away.

So I worked out that I need a fan belt. There doesn't seem to be one. (there should be one, yes?)

Any ideas on where to get one? Are there any compatible generic belts in the UK?

Billy-Bob is a Mazda Bongo, 2.5 diesel, auto. N reg, 321 Away conversion.

Because of the position of the engine ..the Bongo has no belt driven fan.
It has electric fans.
There are 3 drive belts at the front of the engine.
2 of them drive the Alternator and waterpump.
The 3rd one drives the Air Con compresser.

Sounds to me as though you need to get your Bongo to a garage that knows all there is to know about Bongos before it's to late (if it isn;t already)

Hi, agree totally with the above.

Give a good garage a ring that knows bongos well. Lakeside is probably the nearest to you, not from heathrow airport but don't drive it until it's fixed, you can ruin the engine easily.

Thanks guys. What I know about engines can be written in capitals on a matchbox.

I've been quoted £600 for a new pump. But I just need to keep it going for a month or so. I'm going to risk filling up with water every few miles. As I'm only pottering around London it's not too bad.

Were they wearing a mask, wearing a stripey shrit & carrying a bag marked swag? Should be less than half that I reckon, it ain't a difficult job, you can get a water pump for anywhere between £42 & £90.

You should get a pump and fitted for about 120/150 tops me thinks.
