Driver door won't unlock

Hello,

I've got a faulty locking mechanism on the driver's door where it stays locked when unlocked. Pulling the lock button up from inside causes unlocked doors to lock.

I have been able to get the door open with the window down and some combination of pressing the lock button and pulling on the handle but not sure what to do next.

I've taken the panel off and can feel inside the door where the lock button rod goes into a unit held by two screws. It feels like there's very light rubber where the rod enters the unit but the rubber is not attached to the unit. I'd like to undo the unit to check further but am reluctant to do so without first checking here in case there are other 'effects' of moving the unit?

Am I looking in the right place to start with?

Did not want to risk making it worse so have put the panel back. I can open the door whilst keeping the lock button held up and can live with that for now.

Sorry mike, i've never stripped a door down that far, so can't give any specifics i'm afraid... It sounds like the outside door handle may need to come off to investigate it further... I reckon one of the rods has slipped out of position, but may still be "trapped" in the channel giving the impression that it's still properly attached, this would throw the whole mechanism out of kilter, and could well cause the symptoms you are experiencing...Hopefully some body that has tackled his job will spot this thread soon...
