Mine is also quite noisy when lowered - I think due to the air being pushed out.

if you put your location in by clicking user control panel top right somebody local to you might be able to help more.

Try lubricating the runners at the bottom (inside and out), also polish the hydraulic rams.

You need a spray can of this Barry

Sqiurt it on the runners & the shiney bits of the hydraulic lifting arms & all the groans will be gone.

Could the groaning be a delayed stored response to dodgy posts like mine, claiming to help, but actually causing the previous posters to wish they hadn't logged in...? & not even a funny picture or nothing. I don't even have an AFT. :D

Sorry to hear about yer roof Barry... If it's any consolation the sunroof on my tin top sounds like Carol Vorderman on a record turntable when it opens...

Got to be careful here. My roof groans too sometimes, but usually going up, and a little lubrication as advised above sorts it. Hopefully the same will work for you. But there can be groans of a different sort altogether, indicating something more serious. Without hearing it, its hard to compare notes (do groans have notes? ). So don't be blinded by our advice - keeps your eyes and ears open and proceed with caution 8)

I think any suitable lubricant (PTFA, 3 in 1 oil, butter, veg oil, vaseline), maybe put on a clean cloth which is then wrapped gently round the polished bare metal of the rod and then used to smear it, ought to get rid of the noise. If it doesn't, then the problem may be something more serious. As regards what is best to use, I'm not sure but I have some PTFE spray and thats what I use. It needs doing regularly as and when the groan reappears. 8)

I cleaned the runners and the rams with a lint free cloth then sprayed with GT85... although TF2 does the same....they are Teflon based Bike sprays similar to WD40....only much better for external use......... pay attention to the small plastic wheels and the runners....quick tip..... have a cloth ready to keep the spray off of the roof tent and to mop up any excess....try the roof then .....I never needed to lubricate my lift arms.....you might not need to either....
