See what i'm getting at?!

I'm after lifting the trap door panel thing to access the fuel sender above the tank...
I just know i have more fuel in the tank than the gauge is telling me!!!
I have an MPV style tintop with two rows of bench seating in the back.. (To put you in the picture).
I tried lifting the front carpet from the front drivers side, around the long runner end. But the trap door appears to be further back than expected & my seats only go so far back with the special stopper pulled out of the runner behind the back row seat!
My question is; what's the best way of getting at the trap door without pulling half the interior apart!!
Cheers you lot!

Can't help J but will be watching this one.
Mine does much the same. Get to about 200 miles from a brimmed tank & its on the
E I usually play Fuel Guage Roulette for another 40/50 miles until its really really at the very lowest point, way below the
E then fill up again but it invariably only takes about 50 litres.
3 gallons still in there.
I'd like a more honest gauge too.

There are only four bolts holding the bench seat on the runners, just unclip the plastic fronts and undo the bolts and get a friend to help you out with the seat, then you can get to the panel under the carpet.

Yep, the story with mine...
Cheers fer the link Kirsty.. The one i've been looking at the other day!
Though i had a plan for a different earth strap arrangement keeping the original connector block in place..
I ended up pulling the carpet up from the corner behind the drivers seat...
Losing light now so will look at again tomorrow, i did try the shorting the plug trick & the gauge only goes up to the "just between the last two lines". Most cars i know will go beyond the last mark when brimmed, which is what i thought might happen in this case..?
The actual sender connections & gubbins look sound, non corroded & as clean as an internal switch connection!

So i could have a dodgy connection to the back of the dial pod. The connector to the sender seemed to be putting out 10v with the tester, but didn't earth to the neg point on the sender?

Again i'm confused... When connected it works to a fashion, but i know it ain't tellin the truth.. I can normally fill it from empty with about 43/45 quids worth, (Talking about a brim tank.) & even then it don't top out on the gauge..!!

considering its a 65 litre tank and fuel at around £1.04 a litre 43 to 45 quid wont fill the tank from empty.

My gauge goes off the scale when it's brimmed & takes a while to start moving down.

Indeed Dave.. That's why i came to the conclusion my Bongo's holding out on me when have hit on empty!!
It don't really say say full when properly brimmed, & appears to say empty when not...
I sussed that out on the last 2 Euro Bongo trips!

I'm not a big fan of playing "Cape Fear" with my travels!!

So does Sandy's Micra, & most cars i know... I'm starting to think duff gauge.. Or connection at the back of the dial pod.?

I dream of such a luxury. Mines at about 90% when brimmed, down to 75% after 40 or so miles & keeps dropping like a flat out Bugatti. At the moment its just on the E mark at 189 miles.
Does the gubbins need calibrating or sommething like that?

I might be talking crazy..? But what about a Mason style set up in reverse for the fuel gauge..??
Or am i thinking wrong like the idea i had for remote control UPVC sash windows..?

It would be cheaper to train a dog to dipstick the fuel tank & move the gauge needle to the appropriate position...& bark on empty!

just got this from a old link.
This is all I have
The F postion is with the float up and E is with the float down.
keep the faith
Bongo Fuel Tank Gauge Unit
Position on the Float
Ohms
F
3±1
1/2
32.5±1
E
110±1
Checkpoints
1. Remove the fuel tank gauge unit.
(refer to sections F1, F2 and F3)
2. When you have removed the float, measure the ohms between the two battery pins.
3. If the ohms are different to those in the table above, or if the ohms do not decrease as you move from point E to point F on the float, the fuel tank gauge unit must be replaced. (Refer to section F1, F2 and F3)
