Overheating saga

First post so hope you can help us - mechanical muppets seeking guidance from those well-versed in these things.

Our P Reg 2.5 Diesel Bongo started losing coolant about 4/5 months ago. After attempts to resolve this, it had a major overheat and our trusted garage (Bongo Fury recommended) came back with the sad news that we needed a new cylinder head and radiator. Both replaced (got the cylinder head from AVA via Bongo Fury website). Once installed, radiator hose then blew - so had that done. System bled twice. After first go, it overheated again. Mechanic suggested we get an engine specialist to test to see if gases getting into the system. No evidence of this happening though engine specialist suggested that he'd seen problems with "cheap (!) Chinese heads" and that the only solution in each case had been to get a more expensive one fitted. After engine test and second system bleed, it seemed as if the problem was sorted (though strangely the rev counter stopped working) and garage took it for an 18 mile run (lucky them). However, on 2 mile journey home got the same knocking sound underneath the bonnet and the temp gauge went up - so problem not solved.

Have had a couple of further suggestions - one is rusted blades in the pump - no idea what this is. The other, from an engineer we know is that there's probably a fault in the electrical system that controls the temperature.
Anyone with any ideas we can take back to the garage/similar experiences? :-({|=

Thanks. Will look through and see what we can see that we haven't covered already.
