Bongo Fury

As a relative 'newbie' to the bongo scene, can anyone help regarding my faulty fuel gauge, which only reads half full even when the tank is full. I have read some of the threads about earthing issues etc. and sounds as if my fuel sender needs replacing. I dont want to mess around fixing it / drilling holes, fiddling with bits of wire etc. and want my Bongo to be spot on, so am happy to buy a new one, but cheapest I can find is £130 on ebay at the moment. (appears to be brand new, someone is selling it as they managed to repair their own)

Has anybody found any cheaper than this, I would considered a properly refurbished / second hand also.

Probably only need to clean up the earth contacts. A new unit won't cure it, unless the earth is made good.

If you want new, that's about the cheapest you'll get, a secondhand one'll just run the risk of doing exactly the same, unless it's had the earth sorted something like this - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=33920 which you don't seem to like, but it's worked fine for loads of people.

I have tested the fuel sender plug and by shorting the two female contacts, can make the gauge travel from full to empty, 0 to 100 Ohms (as design spec), therefore I am fairly confident that a new sender will do the trick. (I measure around 50 Ohms at the fuel sender terminals when the tank is full, therefore gauge only goes half way)

Thanks for photos Kirsty...I might try this before buying a new one. The one on ebay is auction bid as well as buy-it-now, so might try for a bargain in the auction and if unsuccessful, try your suggestion.

Try re-earthing......i had exactly the same problem (fuel gauge reading halfway,even when full) . I ran a second earth which bypassed the plug altogether, and hey presto!, a functioning fuel gauge!....once i exposed the fuel tank, was a ten minute job
