Bongo Fury

Some of you may recall that some months back I was posting an Eberspacher v Webasto question and whilst I had made up my mind to get an Eberspacher I've been having problems finding someone to fit one. I have now concluded that in this part of the world it would be easier to buy new and have it fitted by a main dealer. However, neither have fitted on to a Bongo before. Shame on them (notwithstanding that they are both predominantly yacht places).

I've all but settled on Webasto now, as the price quoted for the heater and installation is considerably cheaper than the price I was given for an Eberspacher, but just out of interest, is there more than one way to skin a cat, ie for those of you who have a diesel heater installed, where is yours? Under the bonnet, under the Bongo, under the passenger seat? Just curious in case I need to give the chap some suggestions (heaven forbid - they have fleet contracts for various organisations' vehicles, so they should know what to do - I'm just a bit concerned that they might do poor old Seymour an injury )

I'm pretty sure most of them are under the passenger seat Alison from when I was researching the possibility. I think Dandywarhol posted a load of piccies of installation a while back that may be of some use.

Not in a V6, you can't, Alison - especially if you cram in an LPG conversion as well. Mine's at First Car, Shrewsbury, for the first time today, and Paul's intake of breath when he lifted the engine covers was quite amusing Hope I'm amused when I get the result, and the bill

Hi...I have got an eberspacher heater fitted...it came witht the bongo when I bought it. The previous owner installed it himself under the passenger seat. It seems to fit under there quite nicely. He had problems with it working so it has never been used yet, I took it to a haulage firm to let the machanic take a look at it (they fit them in their lorrys) He seemed pleased with its location and didn't have any worries, he reckons the unit has a built in cut-out though, if it senses a fault with something it cuts itself out and requires unlocking...this is why the previous owner couldn't get it working I suspect. you have to take it to a auto-electrical specialist to get it un-locked. You may or may not already know all this..just thought I would mention it in case you didn't.

If its the black box with "webasto" written on it, mine's under the bonnet! Fitted by Wellhouse i believe at the time of conversion.

Apart from the usual fuses which are there to blow if there's an electrical fault in one or other of the electrical circuits (glow plug, impeller..), there's an over-heating cut out which simply has to be re-set if the heater has exceeded a design pre-set temperature - usually because it's been inadvertently operated with the hot air outlet left shut. I dread the day I commit that error, as our Eberspacher's in a sealed casing under the Bongo, and the re-set will be very difficult to access!!

Alison - I fitted a Webasto some time ago, and did a write-up about it on here - but it seems to have disappeared into the archives of time!!
