Bongo Fury

Not too surprisingly, our leisure battery has gone down. 'Not surprising' since it was the original Japanese second battery that came with it three years ago. Main battery is still working well, but obviously a good idea to change it now and have two new batteries. But which ones and what amperage, or whatever? All writing is Japanese, and although we have the big manual, batteries aren't covered. Help would be appreciated from you chap/persons, as it's a big outlay, and don't want to do it wrong. It's an N reg Mazda Bongo Freda. Thanks. Malabar.

Why do you need to change both batteries if your starter battery is OK? Could be a good reason - I don't know anything about batteries

Thank you, Alison, that was a very informative thread, and seems to have solved our problem. Thought we'd change both batteries because the main must be about to expire, (surely? after about 13 years.) It's a big subject, and nice to have so much useful input. Cheers! Malabar.

My local autoelecticians tested my starter battery for free, you could try and see if your will do the same.

If your engine is starting, why change it? If you have trouble starting, then get a new one!

I presume you're running a split charge leisure battery setup with blinds, interior lights, stereo and door mirrors running from the LB separately or do you have just the standard twin battery set up?

Thanks for replies Yes, we do have the split system, Dom e. It's just that with the starter battery being Japanese and no info, we are worried about exactly what would work with it and not perhaps work against it and cause other problems.

A battery is a battery, if it's working leave it there just get a new leisure battery. 110v Numax or similar seems to be the way to go.

i need a new one myself (leisure Battery) and have been looking at replacing my 85amp one that now only lasts about 12 hours with a new one. I was looking at replacing with a 105 Amp one but looking at the space under the bonnet there doesn't look enough room ? The one i was looking at was a Lucas at £89 online. Now i have done the measurements i think i will have to go for a 95a one as it looks like the biggest i can get under the bonnet ? They are £79 locally but it isn't a Lucas but at least i can check it fits.

A 110 amp hour Numax fits, but if you've got the original twin battery tray, I think it needs a little bit of modding to get it in. I've got the purpose built Willinton which was built around the Numax 110 as being the biggest he could get in there.

cheers Kirsty , I will have a look although the tray is only 130mm across but i am more concerned with the bonnet not closing. Also mine is a petrol on a w so I'm not sure if its any different under the bonnet from a diesel? may just go for the 95A rather than getting stuck with a mail order 110A one.

Shouldn't be any difference under the bonnet as the engine's between the seats. Under the bonnet should be the same.
