Arrfternoon
My rad blew up the other day. Are they serviceable or is it time to fork out two hundred sheets for a new one?
It's leaking from under the plastic cowling on the rad' top when I try to re-fill it.

Hi, hard to say exactly but if it's gone in one place then it's likely to go in other places too.
I'd change for a new one and check rest of the cooling system while I'm at it as any failure here can lead to expensive engine damage.

mine also split around the plastic top a couple of years ago = once they have gone, there gone, get a new one and be sure to bleed the system or get somebody who knows what they are doing to do it for you..

Thanks for the replies.
How much time is involved in swapping a rad?
Has anyone done it themselves?

done mine in just over 2 hours including changing coolant and bleeding, I just needed a 10mm spanner a pair of pliers and a screwdriver for the hose clips...... don't forget to bung up the transmission pipes to stop leakage, I used Bolts which I tightened up jubilee clips to seal, and topped up the transmission fluid afterwards....

Thanks. I think I'll have a go at it then.
I take it that the trans fluid goes through part of the rad then? I didn't realise that.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Got a rad for £140 from these people...
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/budget-radiators/
I'll let you know what it's like.
Is there a fact sheet on how to change the rad?
I read the one on how to bleed the system before my membership appeared to lapse. Ahem.
I don't want any gotchas once I've got the old rad in the skip.
