seems i have heated seats... My drivers seat is getting very warm. the engine seems to be getting very hot but temp gauge stays at 11:00/11:30 im worried. does everyone get a hot bum? even seat rails feel hot? i dont hear any fans running unless blowers/aircon are running!

Is this normal?

Maybe the scavenger fan in the engine bay area ( underneath the front seats !) isnt coming on when it should.

I'm sure a scavenger fan expert will be along in a minute to confirm

Apart from scavenger fan, are all your seat clips tight? A poor seal, around the engine cover, will let hot air in and it gets trapped underneath the carpet, thus warming your seat.

If you're relying on your standard temp guage to tell you anything, you're wasting your time, it has to get really hot before it starts moving, it's been dumbed down so it doesn't scare people by moving apparantly. A lot of us have fitted a Mason alarm - http://www.townace.plus.com/ie/ietemga2.htm - easy to fit, resensitises the temp gauge & provides a settable alarm.

Sounds like you have been given the possibilities

First Lift the drivers seat and slightly bend the clips that lock the seat down to the body, this will tighten the seal, to see if this eliminates the hot seat!

If it doesnt work check the fuse for the scavenger fan, its located under the bonnet in the large fuse box of the 2, its the last 30amp fuse on the bottom row.
you can also check to see if the fan is working by disconecting the fan sensor its by the handbrake, if the engines running and you disconnect the plug the scavenger fan starts

ok thanks im gonna go out in the rain now and try those things. supposed to be going away today touring scotland probably leave tomorrow now. weather is awful!!

ok tried scavanger fan, fuse and sensor. but still not working is there a relay? im worried its getting to hot. imagine what it will be like on a really hot day.

Does this man its best to have a Mason alarm as well as the Haydun Coolant alarm?

Yes it is, the exact location can vary between models, but always in the block of relays located under the Starter Battery the row nearest the Bulkhead, normally the 3rd from left when looking down from over the radiator;

It gives an extra level of protection, but probably not necessary if you've got the TM2/coolant alarm combo or the High temp alarm/coolant combo. All you have to remember is that UNLESS you fit a Mason Alarm the standard temp gauge should be ignored, as it just doesn't do anything meaningful otherwise.

If you have a simple low coolant alarm, that only does just that - warn of low coolant, then yes, fit a Mason alarm to give you visual and audible warning of high temps.

But if you have one of the later "all in one" coolant AND temp alarms, you have no real need to bother with a Mason alarm - you also have no reason whatsoever to ever consult the standard temp gauge again, as it remains meaningless in normal usage.

ok i tried all the relays. but still no fan!! i cant get under van to look at the fan itself. (not that i'd know what i was looking at) so... ive given up for now im going touring scotland tomorrow (sun) so ill just have to have a hot bum. or maybe get it fixed on route?
