Hello all, Could any kind member please tell me how to repair a near side wing mirror, or remove it.
It moves slightly from side to side in the wind, just enough to move it out of view.
Regards Brian.

One could always use the direction switch for the mirror angle to compensate for the mirror housing drift!

Is it just the glass that moves? If so you might find that just putting some light pressure onto the glass will make it pop back into place. If doing this it's worth holding the front of the mirror with the other hand to stop the whole unit going forward. Hope that makes some sence.

A way of securing it is to drill a small hole through the plastic and into the aluminium (monkey metal) frame underneath where the mirror pivots, obviously making sure the mirror is set in the correct position first. Then screw a small self tapping screw into the hole. The trouble with this is that it cannot be folded back. I think a lot of mirrors must get damaged on the container ships on the way over from Japan. Mine cost over £90 second hand to replace last year.

I seem to remember my offside mirror suffered something similar when it got thumped.
The way I got mine back to behaving itself was by operating the mirror fold button (at the side of the mirror adjustment gismo) in and then out again and it reset back to normal.

Sometimes it just needs bending back on itself (towards the front), it worked for mine a couple of times when it went useless, the motor kicks in & grabs it tight again if that makes sense, I think if it gets knocked it just needs "resetting" sometimes. Usual disclaimers apply if you break it

Had a PM from Brian and this also worked for him.
What must happen is that if thumped, the mechanism disconnects mechanically (a protection device

)
By folding/unfolding, it reconnects. A bit like turning a computer off and on often sorts out gremlins.

Nice one

, my fold function fails occasionally, the fold it back trick gets it working for another week or two, time to strip it & clean it out I think.

Thanks for all the help and advice.
The fold it back proceedure really works, so it saved me taking more drastic action.
